Creating a life you love often means making choices that other people simply do not understand.

It might be leaving the safety of your corporate job, investing your life long savings into a new venture, booking a trip halfway round the world that looks, from the outside, like a whim.

Your friends just don’t get it. Your family think you’re crazy. Somebody well meaning asks if you have really thought this through.

The question to then ask yourself is this,

What I have watched my daughter choose

My daughter has felt this throughout her years at university. Her friends question so much about how she has chosen to live. The amount she travels instead of putting her degree first. How she has built an income from social media instead of looking for something more conventional. Her quiet certainty that she can have or create anything her heart truly wants. (One very proud mother over here for that last one).

Her degree just didn’t light her up. She is still graduating next month, because she made a promise to herself to see it through. But travelling is what makes her soul really sing. Social media is how she earns her living, and she loves the doors it continues to open for her.

She has decided she is making the most of every single moment, even when it does not look like the path everyone else expected for her.

The courage it takes

It takes courage to stop choosing the option that looks sensible on paper. To stop being the easiest, most palatable version of yourself for everyone around you. To say yes to an opportunity when the people closest to you are quietly convinced you have lost your mind.

But that is how a life gets built. Not in one enormous leap.

One brave choice at a time.

And if those choices make sense to you, they don’t need to make sense to anyone else.

There’s a feeling that comes, often when you least expect it. In the quiet moments. After everyone has gone to bed, or in the car before you go into the supermarket, or in the middle of a perfectly ordinary day.

A feeling that says, there’s more for me than this.

It isn’t loud. It doesn’t arrive as a crisis. It’s quieter than that. A gentle, persistent sense that this, as good as it is, is not quite all you came here for.

And almost as soon as you notice it, you talk yourself out of it.

The thing you tell yourself

You tell yourself you should be grateful. And you are. You have built a good life. There are people who would give anything for what you have. So who are you to want more than this?

So you push the feeling down. You carry on. You tell yourself it’s a phase, or restlessness, or that you’re being ungrateful, or that this is simply what life looks like once you reach a certain age.

But the feeling doesn’t go away. It keeps returning. Quietly, patiently, again and again.

The wanting for more isn’t greed. It’s not ingratitude. The more you are longing for isn’t another thing to acquire. It is not a bigger house, more money in the bank, the recognition. It is something else entirely.

And as an aside, your gratitude for what you have and your longing for more are allowed to exist together. One does not cancel out the other. You can love your life and still feel called toward something more, and both of those things can be completely true at the same time.

Where the feeling actually comes from

I believe we each have a soul-led calling. That we chose to come to this earth, at this particular point in time, for a reason.

That feeling of more is your soul calling out to fulfil what it came here to do.

Your intuition is part of it too. It is always guiding you, not only toward your purpose but toward the fullest life you are capable of living.

It’s why certain things light you up and make you feel expansive, and why others leave you feeling small and restricted. That is not random. That is guidance. Your intuition showing you, through the way things feel, which direction is yours.

And The Universe is offering their part as well. The opportunities that appear. The signs. The support that arrives just when you need it. The conversations and the nudges and the doors that open.

All of these threads are intertwined. Your soul, your intuition, The Universe. All pointing you toward the same thing. The reason you are here.

The feeling of more is simply you, sensing the gap between the life you are living and the life you came here to live.

The reason it gets left alone

Most women ignore this feeling for years. Not because they don’t feel it, but because they don’t know what to do with it. I know, because this was me.

I didn’t know what the more actually looked like. I couldn’t picture it. And when I looked at my life, already full, already busy, already asking so much of me, I couldn’t imagine where on earth I would fit anything else.

So it felt easier to leave it alone. To tell myself maybe later. Maybe when things calmed down. Maybe when there was more time.

But here is what I have learned, and what I wish someone had told me sooner.

When you follow the soul-led more, it doesn’t feel like adding to an already overflowing life.

It feels aligned. It feels like flow. It feels like the most natural thing in the world. You don’t have to carve out room for it or force it into an already full schedule. It pulls you toward it. It gives you energy rather than taking it. It feels less like another task and more like coming home to something you have always known.

That is how you can tell the difference between the more your soul is asking for and simply more to do. One drains you. The other brings you to life.

There’s something incredible about strong, capable, quietly determined women. They don’t give up. They rarely get distracted and they have a clear vision of where they’re headed.

But they also often find themselves chasing something. A goal post that keeps moving.

A point where they’ll finally feel enough. Successful enough. Visible enough. Worthy enough.

The tiredness underneath the capability

I know from my own experience that this feeling is exhausting. It’s a quiet kind of exhaustion that sits underneath the capability and determination to achieve. The kind that makes you wonder why it never quite feels the way you thought it would when you got here.

This has nothing to do with capability. The most accomplished women I know carry this feeling. It isn’t a reflection of who they are. It is simply what happens when your sense of worth has been quietly, persistently tied to something outside of yourself.

How the cycle works

The cycle goes like this. You decide on the level you’re going to reach. And you tell yourself that when you reach it, you will feel worthy, successful, enough. You work hard. You strive. You push. And then one of two things happens.

Either you don’t quite reach it, and you tell yourself that is proof you are not enough. Or you do reach it, and the feeling you were expecting doesn’t arrive. So you set the bar higher. Because surely that next level is where the feeling lives. And the cycle begins again.

I know this cycle because I lived it. For years, my sense of worth came from outside of me. From wanting good grades at school. From needing to feel like the most important person to my partner (and wanting him to make me happy.) From a boss telling me I was the best he had ever worked with. My worth and value came from being noticed, praised, validated by someone else.

When I gave myself permission

What changed for me was not a single moment of realisation. It was simply giving myself permission to lower the bar.

Not to give up. Not to stop having a vision. But to set it somewhere I could actually reach. And when I reached it, something shifted. My sense of worth increased. So I raised the bar, just a little. And I reached that too. And it increased again.

This was no longer about striving and proving to get praise from someone else. This was about achieving something and feeling that sense of achievement within myself.

The gap nothing outside you can fill

The truth is that no external thing was ever going to fill that gap. Not the income. Not the success. Not the recognition. Not the title or the achievement or the moment someone finally said well done.

I know women who have reached every bar they ever set for themselves, who have the business, the income, the reputation, and who still lie awake wondering why it doesn’t feel the way they expected.

It doesn’t feel how they expected because the way they want to feel can only come from within.

Your worth is not your bank balance. It is not your income or your client list or how impressive your life looks to other people. It is not the praise you receive or the opportunities that come your way. Those things are wonderful. But they are not the source.

Giving Yourself Permission

Your worth comes from knowing yourself. From trusting yourself. From giving yourself permission to know that you’re enough, more than enough, exactly as you are.

The moment you become your own source of validation, everything changes. The well done still feels good. The recognition is still welcome. But you are no longer waiting for it. No longer measuring yourself against it.

Your worth belongs to you. And that is something nobody can ever take away.

Are there moments in your life when you feel more connected to the Universe than you have ever been? More lit up. More certain of your purpose. More guided, more supported, more aligned with why you are here.

And at the same time you’re also navigating things that make you want to sit on the bathroom floor and cry.

Both of those things are completely, entirely true. At the same time. In the same life.

Spirituality is not a permanent calm.

Because there is a version of spirituality that looks very serene from the outside. Candles. Stillness. A kind of glowing certainty that everything is unfolding perfectly. And whilst I do believe everything is unfolding perfectly, I also know that believing that doesn’t make it feel easy.

It doesn’t make the hard things stop being hard. It doesn’t mean you won’t snap at someone you love, or lie awake at 3am with your mind racing, or feel the weight of something so heavy you don’t quite know how to carry it.

Spirituality is not a feeling of permanent calm. It is not immunity from the human experience.

It is the invisible hand that steadies you, the quiet knowing that beneath everything that feels hard and heavy, you are held, guided, and loved by something greater than you.

You are a spiritual being. That means you have a deep knowing inside you that is always there, always guiding you, always connected to something much larger than the moment you’re standing in. You have access to the wisdom of the Universe. You are held by it, guided by it, loved by it, always.

And you are also human. Which means you will feel frustrated and overwhelmed and sometimes furious. You will have days when the vision feels very far away and you feel lost to what step to take. You will love people who drive you to absolute distraction. You will carry things that feel too heavy for one person. You will have a cry and not entirely know why.

Both things are you.

I channel guidance for my clients. I am a bridge between the human and the spiritual, between what is seen and what is felt and what is known. I work with the Angelic Realm. I feel the energy of the women I work with before they’ve even spoken a word. That is my reality.

My other reality is that I have asked my 19 year old son to put his shoes away more times than I could count, my laundry basket is never empty and I spend too much of my day in front of a laptop.

Your spiritual self and your human self are not in competition. They are both entirely you. The woman who feels deeply connected to her intuition and the woman who cries in the car before she can face the day. The woman who knows she is here for more and the woman who sometimes can’t find the energy to believe it. The woman who is building something extraordinary and the woman who is also just trying to get through the week.

Both are real. Both are valid. Both are you.

You don’t have to choose.

What spirituality gives you is not a life without difficulty. It gives you access to guidance when you don’t know what to do. It reminds you that you are supported, even when you feel alone. It connects you to your purpose, your mission, the reason you are here, even on the days when all of that feels very abstract and far away.

It is the thread that runs through everything. The difficult and the beautiful and the ordinary and the sacred.

You are allowed to be all of it.

The woman who is deeply connected to the Universe and the woman who is tired and worried and doing her best. The woman who knows she is guided and the woman who is still figuring it out. The woman who is here for more and the woman who is, right now, just here.

You don’t have to choose between your spiritual self and your human self. You don’t have to pretend the hard parts aren’t happening in order to call yourself spiritual. You don’t have to be calm and glowing and certain every day in order to be connected.

You just have to keep coming back to yourself. That is enough. That will always be enough.

I’m so glad you’ve found your way here.

I’ve been thinking about this space for longer than I care to admit. And now that it exists, I want to tell you exactly why.

Why I’m here

I’m excited and nervous in equal measure about being here.

Excited because I believe this is a space where I am meant to be and I will make a difference. Nervous because I care deeply about whether what I say and share will impact and reach the women I am here for.

I know from my own experience that a combination of nerves and excitement always leads to good things. And also that showing up despite the nerves is where change and growth happen.

I came to Substack because I kept hearing that this space feels different. That it attracts those who think and feel deeply. That conversations get the chance to go deeper. That feels like home to me.

A little about me

I’m Anne-Louise. Spiritual mentor, intuitive channel, and author of the book Insights from the Soul.

I’ve spent years working with women who know they are here for more but have lost their way back to themselves.

Women who are accomplished and quietly exhausted. Who have built the life they were supposed to want and are privately wondering why it doesn’t feel the way they expected.

I know that woman. I’ve been her.

I am here to guide women who have built the life, done the work, and still feel something is missing, back home to themselves.

So they can live fully in their authority around wealth, receiving and feminine power without apology and become their most magnetic self.

We are spiritual beings living a very human existence. Both things are true at once. The deep knowing and the days when you want to curl up and cry.

Spirituality doesn’t make the hard parts disappear. It gives you a way to move through them. To trust yourself. To come back to yourself.
